Target Audience Collage

A visual insight into the mind of the reader...

Here I present to you a variety of images and further explanations of who my target audience is and what they are interested in. By using images, I can present a visual demonstration of ‘Frank’s readers as photographs can guarantee a clear and accurate vision.

The two girls above appear to adopt the nature of ‘Frank’s target audience. They can be described as ‘bohemians’ as they drift through life with a light hearted and carefree approach. These girls let the music control them: their thoughts, their words and their actions. This is the kind of style you would expect a reader of ‘Frank’ to have!

What's in her bag?

Above, one can see the contents of two female handbags. I believe that the contents of a person’s handbag can express their personality in a nutshell. I have chosen these two images because I feel they represent the target audience of ‘Frank’. The image on top is likely to be interested in Indie, Acoustic and Alternative music. I believe she is quite creative and sentimental as her bag contains notebooks, a camera, camera film, Polaroid’s and a journal. The one on the bottom appears to me, more of a ‘rock chick’ as the items look a little dishevelled, yet cool. I presume she is into Alternative and Indie rock as the use of colouring is monotone and slightly masculine. Without the splashes of colour: the salmon pink, the mustard yellow and the emerald green, this image could have easily been mistaken for a male’s bag. I believe this person travels a lot, what with the passport and handbag that has the names of city’s printed on the front. The iPod confirms that she is interested in music. These images represent style of ‘Frank’ magazine by being unkempt yet cool, atypical and tasteful, explorative and sentimental, informative and inspiring.

Where would you find her?

1) The first image shows a girl relaxing in her bedroom, lying on her bed in a pile of mess! This suggests a more rebellious side to the TA, whilst also indicating the TA’s interest in savouring alone time, to relish in peace & quiet.
 2) The second image shows a girl at a gig which refers to the TA’s radical and fanatical passion for live music.
3) The third image shows two friends hanging out and having fun. The quirky and eccentric side to ‘Frank’s TA is portrayed through this image.
4) The last image: a girl is pictured in a more peaceful and natural location, showing the TA’s creativity and sensitivity. The union-jack blanket represents the pride of British alternative music.

These particular artists  interest the target audience because they create contemporary, alternative music as well as represent a new breed of female musicians within the Music Industry. I would like to feature artists & bands in 'Frank' magazine that fit into this category of musicians.

Laura Marling intrigues the TA with her quirky folk songs, infectious lyrics and her husky singing voice. The listeners find the realism within her music endearing. Ladyhawke gets her name from the 1985 movie, 'Ladyhawke' because she sees herself as a "pop superwoman". This theory relates to the ethos of 'Frank' magazine as the artist is presented as a strong and dominant figure in music. Lily Allen is known for her overt and outspoken nature within her music and in that respect she can be admired by the TA, as they should not shy away from voicing their opinions. Natasha Khan aka Bat For Lashes can be admired for her courageous and artistic sense of style within music and also fashion. Florence Welch aka Florence & the Machine, is the example of success what with awards such as: 'The Brits Critics' Choice Section', 'Studio8's female voice of July 2009', 'Studio8's best song of 2009', 'MTV EMA's best UK and Ireland New Act' and 'UK Festival Awards 2009 Best Breakthrough act'. Florence Welch is inspiring for teenage music-devotees.

Other Artist's of Interest:

Kate Nash, Marina Diamontis, Dianca Vickers.
